Oh MTV, you’re just full of surprises. Just when you thought they’d run out of teen moms and oompa-loompa colored pseudo-Italians to film, they pull out an old favorite. Daria, MTV’s hilariously subversive teenage cynic, sometimes dubbed “the first hipster,” is coming back this summer alongside old episodes of Laguna Beach and The Hills (the latter two which I could do without). But Daria is back? YES. Not a morning person? I’m not either- we’ll have to work on that, especially given these nuggets of hilariousness she dishes out.

On the popular cheerleader:
“She’ll have to watch out for ferrets building a nest in her head.”

To her image-obsessed sister Quinn:
“Sometimes your shallowness is so thorough it’s almost like depth.”

To her parents:
“I don’t have low self-esteem. It’s a mistake. I have low esteem for everyone else.”

Hilariousness aside, there’s something so relatable about the misanthropic teenage girl alienated by the stereotypes and judgments that pervade not only high school, but college and beyond. The dialogue pokes fun at the control we permit our stereotypes to have, some characters in complete ignorance of their portrayals as stock characters. Oddly enough those differences seem to facilitate connections as well, particularly between Daria and her sister Quinn, whose endless critiques of each other allow for a strangely humorous relationship to form between them. So suit up with a white tee like this one, or pick your favorite color and get an awesome Daria graphic printed on your own custom tee. Let the Princess of the Pessimistic assume her reign and continue to entertain us with her sardonic wit and monotone voice.
