At WhoopTee, we understand the little-acknowledged power of the t-shirt and its ability to express your thoughts, desires, and opinions. Luckily, we aren’t the only ones who get it. Fashion Bible Harper’s Bazaar has picked up on the trend as well—they’ve partnered with British retailer Browns to sponsor a global fashion campaign bringing together several top designers in fashion to design teeshirts honoring all things bright, beautiful, and feminine. The initiative will raise awareness and profits to benefit Women For Women, a charity that provides financial and emotional support for women in war-ravaged areas, transforming them from victim to survivor.

This is truly an amazing charity that makes a real dent in providing opportunities for women living without hope, where being a woman means being subservient, demeaned, and compliant. Through a year-long program of rights education, job skills training, and small business development, women are not only able to take hold of their futures, but empower other women in their communities to do the same. The organization was founded by Zainab Salbi, an Iraqi-American woman who grew up under Saddam Hussein’s Baathist regime at the height of its prominence. Trapped in a prison of oppression and fear, Salbi later escaped to the US and later began piecing together what would later become one of the largest, most beneficial charities affecting women in countries devastated by social and political oppression.
Boy, what a story. As I sit prattling away on my computer in the safe confines of the US, far removed from that tragic reality, I am reminded that those glimpses of hope change the world. Believe it or not, something as ostensibly simple as a can make a real impact. Check out what the designers have come up with here, or hop on board with the designers and come up with your own graphic and to raise awareness. Check out more of the story here.
