Many people are pitching in to do their part for the planet, going green in various ways to decrease their carbon footprint. Some people want to change the world. Others just want to do what they can to help. In either case, decreasing your carbon footprint starts with recycling. Finding ecologically friendly ways to dispose of items, or finding new uses for items you’re done with, is a good start.

Now, let’s say you just bought a some new custom t-shirts from WhoopTee. Since you’re going eco conscious, you no doubt went with our green t-shirts. If you’re looking for more selections on eco friendly t-shirts, check out our guides.

Here are a few ways you can recycle your old shirts and give the Earth a helping hand by cutting down on waste.

1. Donate

This one goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway. There are lots of people out there who could really use some clothes. Shirts that don’t fit you anymore, or that you just don’t need, give them to someone in need through a charity in your area. Many businesses have clothing drop boxes, and most communities have civic groups, government organizations, or churches who accept clothing donations. Help someone in need and re-home your shirts.

2. Repurpose

If you have some shirts that have seen better days and are too beat up to donate, you can cut them up and make dish rags out of them. That way you don’t have to buy dish rags and instead of simply throwing the shirts away, you’re giving them a new purpose and cutting down on garbage waste.

3. Make something new

Let’s say you have a shirt that has sentimental value, but you can’t fit into it anymore. This is especially true of souvenirs from your childhood or younger years. You don’t want to get rid of it, because you love it, but you can’t wear it either. Try taking your beloved t-shirts and make them into pillows, blankets, or even teddy bears. This is a great way to keep the memories and give your shirts a second life instead of just rotting in a drawer or closet somewhere.

Whatever way you choose to deal with your unwanted shirts, please don’t just throw them away. Help us make the planet a better place, and help some people out while you're at it.
